The Company are now expanding it's services with the opening of a community based facility in Limerick as part of thestage of our development of health services.

This role provides a unique opportunity to take on the lead nursing position and play a significant role in shaping the future direction of nursing within the Company.

Reporting arrangements

The Director of Nursing reporting relationship and accountability for the discharge of his/her contract is to the Chief Clinical Officer.

The responsibilities and reporting structures for this position, as outlined, may be subject to change in the future, within the context of the reconfiguration of management structures in the organisation and the clinical model.

Key Working Relationships

The nature of the work determines that success will involve the development of key relationships with:

Members of the Health & Wellbeing Executive team

Chief Clinical Officer

Lead colleagues and nursing teams within the Company services

Human Resources lead

External nursing and other professional bodies, such as the NMBI

Educational institutions

The wider team at a national level

Scope & purpose of the role

The successful person will be passionate about the delivery of a holistic patient-centred model of care. They will have an exceptional track record in clinical leadership, proactive and innovative, driven to lead the delivery of patient services with outstanding quality and safety, and with a strong desire to shape the way healthcare is delivered in Ireland.

The Director of Nursing will be a leader who demonstrates the core values of care and the delivery of high quality patient care. The role holder will have scope to shape nursing practice in line with the overall vision and strategy for the Company.

Establishes a framework for nursing which supports continuous professional development opportunities, provides clear career pathways to include specialist and advanced practice roles and strategically plans for recruitment and retention of a strong nursing team.

This person will provide leadership for the development and governance of new roles by creating a road map for nursing and in particular the role of Advanced Nurse Practitioners across the Company.

Assume responsibility for the development and implementation of professional nursing policies and standards.

Improve patient experience, quality of care and patient outcomes in the context of developing a culture of performance improvement within the allocated resources.

Principles duties and responsibilities

Professional leadership

Provide strong leadership to the nursing profession

Ensure appropriate professional standards are in place, reflecting the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics (Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) (NMBI).

Oversee the development and implementation of professional nursing policies and standards.

Strategic management and operation of all nursing services.

Take a leadership role in development and implementation of an integrative medicine approach to care.

Responsible for developing and implementing nursing and health care assistants professional strategy, policies and standards.

Ensure relevant professional development programmes and education and training opportunities are in place and available to all staff.

Working closely with the Human Resources (HR) lead, ensuring that effective strategies are in place for workforce planning, recruitment and retention within nursing. Furthermore, working collectively to promote extended roles of nursing practice.

Provide leadership for the development and governance of new roles by creating a road map for nursing and in particular the role of Advanced Nurse Practitioners (ANPs) within the organisation.

Develop nursing practice and implement training programmes in line with service needs.

Implement performance review processes across the nursing team.

Quality and Clinical Governance

Develop and implement systems and processes to demonstrate compliance with healthcare regulatory standards, within the area of responsibility of the Director of Nursing.

With the Head of Quality and the wider quality team, ensure that there are appropriate systems in place to monitor quality (patient safety, patient experience, risk, and patient outcomes) and identify areas for improvement.

Play a leading role in all accreditation processes.

Support nursing staff in meeting H&Ws responsibilities for quality performance and the implementation of quality improvement plans.

Seek out quality improvement initiatives and work with the relevant people in a multidisciplinary context to deliver on these initiatives.

Constantly strive for, and encourage, advancements in quality, risk management and safety.

Communication and working relationships

Develop strong internal relationships to promote a culture of collaborative and supportive working.

Provide excellent communication and engagement across the nursing and wider teams in the Company.

Develop relationships external to H&W, working collaboratively with other service providers to streamline patient services and enhance collaboration.

Liaise with external nursing and other professional bodies, such as the NMBI.

Create links with relevant Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and NMBI in establishing approval for educational programmes.

Liaise with patient groups and patient representative bodies.

Qualifications, experience, skills, competencies and / or knowledge

Essential Requirements

Registered general nurse with NMBI

Have a minimum of 5 years' experience at senior management level and 10 years clinical nursing experience

Education to Master's degree level in health-related subject or equivalent

Successful track record of senior nursing leadership within a healthcare environment.

Experience in Integrative Medicine or at a minimum, a keen interest in this area

Demonstrates alignment with the Company values.

Strong evidence of continuing professional development

Desirable Requirements

Possess a post graduate level qualification (QQI Level 8 or equivalent) in management

Experience in transformational healthcare programmes, with evidence of delivering change in service delivery and/or culture shift

Skills & competencies

Demonstrate strong and credible leadership in bringing people together across systems and inspire and motivate them to deliver common goals

Operate with integrity coupled with an overarching humility

High degree of emotional intelligence and self-awareness

Possess significant influencing and negotiating skills and have the ability to engage, build and sustain relationships
